Safer Internet Day - 12/02/2009

On Tuesday 10th February, Knowsley Community College celebrated ‘Safer Internet Day’. As well as in-house activities, the College also played host to the Borough’s launch of the day, which involved speeches from Damian Allen, Knowsley Council’s Executive Director of Children and Family Services, and special guests including Councillor Michael Foulkes, Mayor of Knowsley.  The College’s BTEC Performing Arts students also put on a thought-provoking self-devised performance entitled ‘Safety Net’ exploring the potential dangers of online communities.

Throughout the day, both in College and throughout Knowsley, many people signed the ‘E Safety Pledge’ which sets down individual and collective support to the campaign to keep all children and young people, wherever they access the internet, safe and free from harm.

“I pledge my support to Knowsley’s safer internet use campaign. Together we will ensure our online communities are healthy environments where we and others are safe, can have fun, learn and contribute.”

Students who signed the pledge in the College Study Centres, were entered into a draw to win an IPod shuffle. The winner was picked as care student Danielle Williams (pictured) her prize was presented by Kim Cope, Learning Resource Adviser for the Study and Careers Centre, Kirkby.
