Knowsley Comunity College hosts School Chef Competition - 30/01/2009

School Chefs from across the North West gathered at Knowsley Community College for the regional heat of the National School Chef of the Year Competition.

This annual competition puts the preparation, cooking, creativity and presentation skills of shool chefs to the test with each entrant required to produce, in just one an a half hours, a healthy balance two-course meal compromising of a main course and a dessert that would appeal to eleven year olds in school.  A maximum of £1.10 was allowed for the cost of a single meal (main course and dessert) for one child.

The entrant for Knowsley was Ann Hanlon from Plantation County Primary School in Halewood.  She served up a tasty Spicy Chicken main, with a Tangy Orange Tart for dessert.  Whilst the judges all agreed the competition was tight, the overall winner was announced as Clair Jones from Stoke on Trent.  She will go on to the national final, held in Sheffield.

Alos present at the event were Granada TV, including reporter Paul Crone.  Highllights from the competition were shown on the Granada Reports show, that evening.
