KNOWSLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AWARDED MBE - 08/01/2009

Susan Lane , recently retired Assistant Principal for Student Services at Knowsley Community College, has just been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List, for services to education in Knowsley. Susan’s long career in education, starting in the primary sector in Bury, Lancashire, led to eighteen years spent at Knowsley Community College, where she was the Assistant Principal responsible for a wide range of direct services to students, including admissions, advice, guidance, financial support, childcare, counselling, Libraries and Study Centres, UCAS applications, Careers education, pre-foundation, additional support and Key Skills provision, amongst many other areas.
During her long career at the College Susan managed the effective expansion of Student Services provision to match the rapid overall growth of the institution, and in that process was responsible for enabling the progression, and supporting the success of, literally, thousands of local residents, young and old. Her guiding ethos was equality of access and opportunity for all learners at the College, which was instrumental in the College being awarded Grade One (Outstanding) for Equality of Opportunity in its last Ofsted Inspection (April 2008).
College Principal, Frank Gill, said: “We are all tremendously proud of Sue’s achievement in gaining this highly prestigious award. It is a tribute to her hard work and dedication in ensuring that all of our students, regardless of any financial hardship or any other disadvantage, were always given the full range of available support. Without that essential support many of our learners could not have gone on to achieve their successful outcomes in terms of qualifications and careers. Sue’s exemplary professionalism and determined vision of equality for all have left a lasting mark on the College and the local community.”
